Lovely commute.
We started off by brazing the chain stays into the bottom bracket.
The seat stays were then cut to length and the top eyes brazed on. I decided to go for wrap over top eyes so I filed the eyes and we did a bit of blacksmithing to bend them over to fit around the top tube. Lots more fettling and filing to get a good fit. The top eyes were brazed with silver to avoid too much heat in the previous brazes on the seat cluster.
Rob tracked the rear triangle and we brazed the non drive side seat stay at the bottom to the dropout, checked tracking again and then the drive side seat stay at the bottom. I cleaned up in the blast cabinet and it’s getting quite difficult getting the frame in there now.
chain stay brazes chain stay brazes top eyes – one cleaned top eyes shaped top eyes bent over cleaned top eyes wrapped over top tube silver braze
While things cooled I cut the head tube to length and we faced and reamed the head tube and the seat tube.
The last job of the day was to drill and cut the slot for the seat pin and file the edges.
It’s mostly done now, just the bridges and braze ons to do.
I’ve decided you really like the word reaming… 😏
I do like a good ream. Tapping too.
